Crash blocked all westbound lanes on Bay Bridge

All westbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge were closed Tuesday afternoon for a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

MDTA police said the crash was reported shortly before 3 p.m. on the westbound span of the Bay Bridge, which was in two-way traffic operations.

Several people were taken to hospitals. There was no immediate word on the exact number of injuries.

MDTA police said at 4 p.m. that the westbound span was completely shut down, but one lane has since reopened; however, a second lane will remain closed for an extended period of time for an investigation.

The eastbound span is not impacted; however, motorists may begin to backup since the bridge will not be able to operate in two-way traffic mode until the accident investigation is complete.

What is Considered a Catastrophic Injury?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the term "catastrophic" is defined as an action or event that causes sudden and very great harm.

It is important to know what is considered a catastrophic injury after an accident because these types of claims are handled differently from the average personal injury claims. An injury that is catastrophic can present unique challenges when compared to soft tissue injuries. The compensation and damage caps for these injuries may differ from other personal injury claims.

Common Causes of Bus Accidents

Every day, thousands of residents and visitors to Maryland rely on bus transportation. When using buses to get around the state, passengers transfer their safety into the care of bus company owners and bus drivers.

Bus operators and owners have a legal obligation to protect the safety of their passengers. However, there are many instances where the reckless actions or omissions of such parties can lead to accidents, injury, loss, and death.

Making a Hospital Fall Claim

Fall injuries in hospitals can be especially hazardous. People who are in the hospital are already ill or injured, and may be unable to care for themselves properly. A fall can exacerbate existing injuries or create new injuries on top of existing illnesses.
